This is an archived Kickstarter update, originally only available to Nelly’s Backers:
Alex continues hammering away at raw elements in Unity, forging a robust framework for HD/multi-platform Nelly fun-times. I’m having regular development meetings with Application Systems and they’re as enthusiastic as I am about making the game as good as it can be.
Meanwhile, I have begun polishing up character animation for high resolution displays, rendering frames and turning those frames into Unity friendly sprite-sheets.
It’s painstaking work, but it feels very satisfying to be replacing static low-res placeholders with the animated characters who will make the game come alive.
In doing this, we’re uncovering new ways that Unity will allow us to improve the visual quality of the game. 3D space makes the parallax effects much smoother and more pleasing to the eye, and using Unity’s lighting system will allow me to create subtle gradations as Nelly walks between areas with different levels of light.
Steam Greenlight Preparations
ASH and I are gearing up for a Greenlight campaign to get Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet on Steam. I hope I can rely on you, my loyal crewmen (and crewwomen), to support the campaign once it launches. All it will take is a click from you, and you’ll get a steam code for the finished game if we are successful. Here are some stills of the stuff we’re putting together for the Greenlight trailer:
As I say, we haven’t launched the campaign yet (we’re going to give the Steam Summer Sale time to die down first), but please have your clicking-on-the-yes-button fingers at the ready when we do.
Voice Overs Continueth
This month we completed our third recording session, with more scheduled for July. Here are some exciting snippets of what you have to look forward to:
Join me again for more about Nelly’s Greenlight campaign. I’m just about to go to Glastonbury to perform “comedy” and have “fun”. If you don’t hear from me again, I have been washed away in torrential rain.
